DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The grocery shopping experience for some Walmart customers in Dothan is about to change. The company rolled out a free grocery pickup option at two locations. The goal is to save you time, cutting down a trip to the store to mere minutes.
"It's like a McDonald's drive-thru, but it's with your groceries," said Samuel Williams, Personal Shopper.
Customers can place an order online, selecting any item in the store - except for alcohol. You pay for your groceries online and select a time to pick up your groceries. A personal shopper does your grocery shopping.
"When we pick produce, we're picking like we're picking for ourselves. We're not going to give you something we wouldn't buy for ourselves," said Autumn Garrison, Personal Shopper.
When you arrive, an employee brings your groceries to your car.
The pick-up window is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
"If you put in your orders the night before by 8 p.m., they'll dispense between 8 a.m. to whenever. After 10 a.m. the same day, you'll get the time slots from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you put your order in before 1 p.m., you'll get a time slot from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.," said Marci Burns, Assistant Manager at Walmart.
Walmart wouldn't release how many slots are available daily, but says if there are none that day pick-up will roll to the next day.
Burns says this service is ideal for a wide range of people.
"It's geared towards your elderly people. Their daughters or friends might come and buy groceries for them. Disabled people who might have a hard time getting out to shop or mothers with kids," said Burns.
The two locations in Dothan are on West Main Street and Montgomery Highway. There are other locations across Alabama. To find the location nearest you visit the Walmart website.
