MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The U.S. Attorney's Office asks that anyone with information regarding the investigation of an Alabama doctor indicted for allegedly operating a pill mill out of his Montgomery practice to please call the Drug Enforcement Agency at 205-536-7506.

Dr. Gilberto Sanchez is out on bond, according to acting U.S. Attorney A. Clark Morris.

Sanchez, 55, of Cecil, was indicted by a federal grand jury within the past week on charges of drug distribution. On Tuesday, a search and arrest warrant was served at his practice in the 4100 block of Atlanta Highway.

The indictment says Sanchez operated a medical clinic created to dispense controlled substances, mainly opioids, inappropriately, unlawfully and for non-medical reasons.

If convicted, Morris said Sanchez faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on each count. He also faces substantial monetary penalties and restitution.
