3 Montgomery women charged in FL theft case
WASHINGTON CO., FL (WSFA) - Three Montgomery woman have been arrested and charged with theft in Washington County, Florida after a witness reported they stole multiple items from a Dollar General store before driving off. The incident happened in Vernon, Florida, approximately 140 miles south of Montgomery.
The witness approached a sheriff's deputy around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 8 to report the crime, telling the deputy they saw two women pull into the store, grab multiple items from the outside front entrance area, then leave in a dark colored sedan with Alabama plates.
The deputy began patrolling the area and quickly located a vehicle matching the description given, made a traffic stop, and while approaching the vehicle, saw the items reportedly taken from the store in plain view.
The deputy reported those in the car admitted they had just left the Dollar General before being stopped. Despite saying they'd purchased the items, they could not provide a receipt.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately $315 worth of merchandise from the store, as well as six large garbage bags of brand new clothing with security devices and tags still intact, as well as a device used to remove the tags. The women told deputies the clothing came from a trip to several stores in the Panama City Beach area.
During the investigation, it was determined that Shondria McShan, 35, and Sentrina Moses, 23, were previously convicted of theft and shoplifting in Alabama. McShan also admitted to owning the anti-shoplifting device and using it to take items from numerous stores.
McShan was arrested and booked on the charges of retail theft $300 or more, petit theft from merchant second or subsequent offense, and use of antishoplifting control device.
Moses was arrested and booked on the charges of retail theft $300 or more and petit theft from merchant second or subsequent offense.
Also arrested was Nykeria Harris, 20, who was transported to the county jail and booked on the charge of retail theft $300 or more.
