New photos show extent of Lisa Theris' injuries
BULLOCK COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - New photos have been released that show just how much damage was inflicted on the body of Lisa Theris during the month she was missing in the woods in south Alabama.
Theris was found alive on the side of a Bullock County road Saturday after having spent an entire month in the woods, naked and alone. She survived on berries and mushrooms, a feat that has seen her story featured nationally.
Theris, 25, and the Bullock County Sheriff's Office released photos taken in the hospital that show injuries, bug bites, skin damage, and significant weight loss.
Theris says her determination to see her family again kept her alive.
Investigators say Theris was with two men who burglarized a hunting camp in Midway on July 17-18. She did not know they were going there to break into the lodge and steal things and didn't want to be a part of it, officials said. The two men, Manley Davis and Randall Oswald, have since been captured and charged.
"She's not familiar with this area and apparently on the night she ran, she went into the woods at night and got lost. I just thank God that she's alive," the sheriff said.
The investigation into what happened is still ongoing and there are many questions surrounding the burglary, the two suspects, and Theris' disappearance. Officials declined to release any other information at this point.
