WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - Shane Vernon, the "armed and dangerous" Coosa County escapee, is now wanted on twelve charges, including kidnapping and robbery.

According to the Elmore County District Attorney's office, Vernon faces three counts of robbery first degree, two counts of burglary first degree and one count of kidnapping first degree.

Coosa County Sheriff Terry Wilson confirms six warrants have been signed for Vernon for the crime in Rockford including: second degree escape, two counts of first degree robbery, two counts of first degree imprisonment, and one count of first degree theft of property.

The U.S. Attorney's Office is also involved in the case. There is no word on possible charges, but Vernon would likely be subject to counts related to the Fugitive Felon Act, as he crossed state lines to avoid prosecution.

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin says on Monday Vernon kidnapped a Wetumpka man from his home on Bradley Road. Vernon allegedly parked a stolen silver van, taken during a separate home invasion, out of view in a highly vegetated area on the victim's property. Vernon then broke into the residence and waited for the man to come home.

Vernon then allegedly stole the victim's car, kidnapped the victim and drove to Douglasville, Georgia, outside Atlanta. He later abandoned the victim and the victim's black Pontiac G2. The victim then was able to safely make it to a police station, according to Franklin.

After escaping from jail on Sunday, authorities say Vernon tied up an elderly couple in their home in Rockford, stealing their car and guns.

Monday he tied up a young family at gunpoint inside their home in Titus, stealing cash and the silver van, that was later abandoned about seven miles away at the kidnapping victim's home, authorities say.

Vernon is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. He has tattoos on his fist, forearm, neck, and shoulder. The tattoo on his fist reads "ride or die." There's also a Chinese symbol on his neck and the word "County" on his shoulder.

It's unclear where Vernon is headed, or what means of transportation he will use. If you have any information on his location, call 911 immediately.
