MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - One person was killed in a house fire in north Montgomery Wednesday morning, according to Sgt. Omari Whiting with Montgomery Fire/Rescue.
The fire was at a house in the 2300 block of Lower Wetumpka Road between Gibson Street and Alduc Court. At 10:30 a.m., units responded to a report of a structure fire with one person possibly inside. The units saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-story home when they arrived, and they were able to get inside, contain, and extinguish the fire.
After a primary search, units found a man inside. He was confirmed to be deceased.
The circumstances of the fire are under investigation. Whiting said this is the first fire fatality in the city of Montgomery this year.
