Troy FD asking for donations to fill 'Sugar Plum Shop'

TROY, AL (WSFA) - The Troy Fire Department is asking for the public's help to fill up the Sugar Plum Shop.

The Sugar Plum Shop is an in-hospital toy store built and operated by hospital staff, corporate partners, and community volunteers. The store allows parents of currently hospitalized patients to 'shop' for gifts for their child and siblings.

The gifts are all free of charge and made possible by public donations, according to officials. Below is a list of acceptable donations:

  • Elefun ball game

  • DVDs
  • iPods
  • Adult coloring books
  • Collegiate gear
  • Make up kits
  • Jewelry making kits/jewelry
  • Over the door basketball hoops

  • Hair Tools
  • Cosmetic Bags
  • Headphones
  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Insulated water bottles/cups
  • Clothing/Pajamas/Slippers

Officials ask that donations be in their new, original and unwrapped packaging. Also, make sure that items are politically and religiously neutral. No candy, gum or food will be accepted or items depicting violence, including guns and swords.

Donations can be dropped off at any of the three fire stations located in Troy until Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. Call DJ at 566-2030 or email for pickup or questions.
