MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Army National Guard's Montgomery-based Joint Force Headquarters Forward Logistics Team Six has been called to active duty.
Approximately 20 soldiers will be sent to various locations across Afghanistan where they will be responsible for helping teach, assist and advise the Afghan National Security Forces on logistics related to sustaining a force.
The soldiers, each highly specialized in their field, will work with the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior levels of the Afghan government.
Before deployment overseas, the team will undergo some additional training at a mobilization station.
A sendoff ceremony is open to the public who are encouraged to attend and show their support for the soldiers and their families. The ceremony will happen Thursday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the Alabama National Guard headquarters building at 1720 Congressman Dickinson Drive.
The Alabama National Guard has called more than 24,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard organizations.
