TROY, AL (WSFA) - A year after he returned three kickoffs for touchdowns and one interception for a touchdown, Troy freshman cornerback Marcus Jones has garnered ESPN Freshman All-American honors.

Jones is the Trojans' first freshman All-American since running back Jordan Chunn in 2013. Jones' three kickoffs for touchdowns are most in a single season in Troy's history and it already ties him for first all-time on the school's list of touchdown returns overall.

Last week, the Enterprise native was named the Sun Belt's Freshman of the Year, the first Troy freshman to earn that title since Corey Robinson in 2010. Jones was also named all-league as a return specialist and all-purpose player.

Nationally, Jones is third in kickoff returns for touchdowns and ranks at the top of the Sun Belt's single-season history for average return yards with 32.9.

Jones will look to be a spark for the Trojans on special teams Saturday when the Trojans take on North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl. That game will kick at noon on ESPN.
