GENEVA CO., AL (WSFA) - Voters in Geneva County have approved an amendment that would change the eligibility age of a probate judge seeking election.

The amendment authorizes a person to be elected or appointed as judge of probate who is not over the age of 75 at the time of the election or appointment. It passed by just 51.11 percent.

Previously the age requirement for a probate judge in Geneva County was capped at 70.

Voters in Henry County passed a similar amendment in 2016.
