TROY, AL (WSFA) - Friday, Troy University held its Fall Commencement Ceremony and the students were treated to words of encouragement from a well-known Trojan.
Super Bowl 50 champion, Nine-time Pro Bowler and Troy University graduate DeMarcus Ware was the keynote speaker to the group of graduating students.
Ware played 12 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Dallas Cowboys and finishing with the Denver Broncos. Ware helped the Broncos to a Super Bowl 50 win over the Carolina Panthers in 2016.
Ware's message to the crowd of more than 600 soon-to-be graduates was not about X's and O's or opposing quarterbacks, but about courage.
"Courage to push through everything and that sometimes failure can be a stepping stone on your way to success, but you've got to look at it that way," said Ware. "Nothing's ever going to be perfect your way to where you want to be, so just keep striving."
Ware also received an Honorary Doctorate during Friday's ceremony.
