MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Troy Police Department says it has removed two credit card skimmers from gas pumps at a gas station on U.S. 231 South.

According to police, the skimmers were located in the 100 block of U.S. 231 South in Troy. The department says it was notified by gas station management that company employees working to repair the pumps had located the skimmers.

Police say the device was not visible from the outside of the pump and the consumer would have no way to know that their credit or debit card information had been compromised.

Any time a credit or debit card is used as payment there is a chase that the information on the card can be compromised. Police urge consumers paying with credit or debit cards to check their accounts often to report any unauthorized or fraudulent use to their card company or bank immediately, then file a report with the police.

This case remains under investigation by the Troy Police Department.
