ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - An Elmore County high school was placed on lockdown after a trespassing incident Tuesday.
According to Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson, around 11:30 a.m. an officer working on the campus of Stanhope Elmore High School was notified of several individuals trespassing on the campus and inside the school.
Elmore County Superintendent Richard Dennis says the school was placed on a precautionary lockdown as a result.
A short time later and a short distance from the school, officers stopped a van and identified eight individuals who were suspected to have been those who were trespassing. Johnson says three of the suspects were between the ages of 18 and 19-years-old.
The ages of the other five suspects are still being confirmed.
"We believe this is in reference to a disturbance at a local restaurant from over the weekend," Johnson said. "Everything, in this case, worked as it should have (between the school and law enforcement),"
Johnson says all eight will be charged with trespassing. Possible additional charges are possible depending on the investigation.
