HOLTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Investigators are searching for the person responsible for a cold-blooded killing in Holtville on Monday.
Tony Carr, 55, was shot at least twice in the head with a handgun in his garage where he worked early Monday afternoon.
"Doesn't appear to be any signs of struggle," Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin stated. "Whoever came in there was someone Tony Carr was familiar with, we've talked to several people that told us who was coming and going."
Franklin says Carr's garage was about 30 feet from his house on Fern Drive. Carr's killer locked the facility down.
"It was very common, they said, for him to keep the roll up doors open," Franklin said of Carr's garage where he repaired vehicles during the day. "The roll up doors were down and the side door that you go in and out was locked. I don't know if it was done after the fact, I just don't know. I don't know if he was held at gunpoint and then the rounds were fired, but we are going to find out."
Franklin says the suspect could be someone who had a rift with Carr; so far he has a list of persons of interest that will be narrowed down soon.
"There are some things we are waiting on and some things we are trying to extract," Franklin explained. "We don't want to delve on that to show our cards, time is on our side on this one."
A reward totaling $2,000 is on the table for anyone who can lead investigators to an arrest and conviction in this case. If you have any information, you can make an anonymous call to 334-215-STOP.
