PIKE CO., AL (WSFA) - An incident outside of a Dale County elementary school prompted officials to lockdown the school.
According to the Dale County Sheriff's Office, around 7:15 a.m. a school resource deputy heard a gunshot near his location. The deputy alerted dispatch of the incident and several deputies were called to the school.
As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown until the threat could be identified.
Deputies were able to quickly identify the origin of the gunshot to a hunter who had been close to the school.
The sheriff's office says at no time was there a threat to students, but all precautions will be taken when responding to these types of events.
