MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) - The Millbrook Police Department has arrested a man and woman in connection to a robbery that happened last week in Elmore County.

Dominique Lamar Jones, 24, and Briona Lawson, 24, both of Montgomery, have been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery each, Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson says.

Johnson said shortly after 6:30 p.m. on April 15, two people were robbed at gunpoint at a residence in the 2100 block of Main Street. The robber tried to fire at the victims but his gun malfunctioned. Johnson said one of the victims used that chance to grab their own gun and fired at the offender, striking him twice before he was able to get away in a silver Chrysler 200.

Jones and Lawson were identified as suspects after investigation. Johnson said Jones checked himself into Jackson Hospital with minor injuries from the two gun shots the same day as the reported incident in Millbrook.

Johnson said the department put the pieces together between the offender being shot and a report of a man checking himself into the emergency room at Jackson Hospital that same day and that led to Jones and Lawson being identified as suspects. The two were arrested Tuesday in Montgomery by the United States Marshal's Service. The two were then taken to the Millbrook Police Department.

Jones' bond has been set at $60,000 while Lawson's has been set at $30,000.
