Cruise into lower Dexter Avenue on first Fridays
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - From May to October, car enthusiasts will have a new hangout on first Fridays. The Lower Dexter Improvement Association, Inc. has reserved the first Friday of every month from May until October for "Lower Dexter First Friday Cruise-ins."
"A cruise-in is simply a gathering of car enthusiasts who either bring their own car or just enjoy being around the culture," said Golson Foshee, president of the Lower Dexter Improvement Association. "Our goal is to cultivate attractive, family-friendly events that builds community- we think this does just that."
On the dates of May 4, June 1, July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 7 and Oct. 5, the lower block of Dexter Avenue will be closed off, while some restaurants like Momma Goldberg's, FRIOS Pops, and Cuco's Mexican Restaurant will be open.
Friday, cars from local collections will be featured, free haircuts courtesy of The Chop Shop will be on hand and pedal car races for kids will be some of the things going on. According to the group, Brewbaker Motors will be the first month's showcase sponsor and Gump Jeeps will be the featured car club.
"We're encouraging anyone interested in displaying their car to apply at www.LowerDexter.org", said Foshee.
Friday's event begins at 5:30 p.m. It is free to the public but your car must be registered to be featured on the lower block.
