Parents, community partners honored in Montgomery Thursday night
The Montgomery Public School summer feeding program begins Monday for anyone 18-years-old and younger. 

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A program recognizing parents and community partners in Montgomery was held Thursday night.

The event, emceed by WSFA's Tonya Terry and Judd Davis, honored the parents and community members who've made contributions to schools throughout the Montgomery Public Schools district. Each MPS school selected a Parent-of-the-Year and a Community Partner of the Year.

The honorees for each school were:

  • Carver Elementary and Arts Magnet: Parent-of-the-Year, Sheree Calloway; Community Partner(s) of the Year, LaToya McClain, D’Andra Whiting, Jasmine Mosley, and Niquilla Burton
  • Brewbaker Middle School: Parent(s) of the Year, Henry and Lovey Ross; Community Partner of the Year, Gateway Baptist Church 
  • Catoma Elementary: Parent of the Year, Melissa Brady; Community Partner of the Year, Montgomery Parent to Parent Military Child Education Coalition Initiative
  • Thelma Smiley Morris Elementary: Parent of the Year, Jasmine Oliver; Community Partner of the Year, Beacon Light Ministries
  • Highland Avenue: Parent of the Year, Michaela Taylor; Community Partner of the Year, Church of the Highlands 
  • Carr Middle School: Parent(s) of the Year, Carr Middle PTSA Board; Community Partner of the Year, Milo's Restaurant manager Kenya Thompson
  • Park Crossing High School: Parent(s) of the Year, Ms. Wood; Community Partner of the Year, Alfa Insurance agent Jeff Knee
  • Sidney Lanier High School: Parent of the Year, Reverend Lorenzo Glover; Community Partner of the Year, Drew Woods of WCOV-TV
  • ED Nixon Elementary: Parent of the Year, Patrice Taylor-Wilson; Community Partner of the Year, Mt. Zion AME Zion Church
  • Carver Senior High School: Parent of the Year, Lachandra Brooks; Community Partner of the Year, Sergeant Derek Sanders of the Alabama National Guard
  • Wares Ferry Elementary School: Parent of the Year, Kia Harrell Wallace; Community Partner of the Year, Eastmont Baptist Church
  • Capital Heights Middle School: Parent of the Year, Venisha Williams; Community Partner of the Year, Montgomery Area Food Bank
  • Jefferson Davis High School: Parent of the Year, Sharon Black; Community Partner of the Year, Church of the Highlands
  • Georgia Washington Middle School: Parent of the Year, Tamika Robinson; Community Partner of the Year, Alma Bowen
  • Peter Crump Elementary School: Parent of the Year, Thelonious Burden; Community Partner of the Year, Macedonia Baptist Church
  • Southlawn Middle School: Community Partner of the Year, Southlawn Baptist Church
  • Vaughn Road Elementary: Parent of the Year, Misty Johnson; Community Partner of the Year, Heritage Baptist Church
  • Chisholm Elementary: Parent of the Year, Greta Aaron; Community Partner of the Year, Hamilton Lodge #365
  • Highland Gardens Elementary School: Parent of the Year, George Lang; Community Partner of the Year, Sebastian Jones
  • Goodwyn Middle School: Parent of the Year, Ralph Edward Bush; Community Partner of the Year, Tim Cearley
  • Dunbar-Ramer: Parent of the Year, Jeneia Evans; Community Partner of the Year, Second Baptist Church
  • Brewbaker Primary: Parent of the Year, Roseyny Bello Hidalgo; Community Partner of the Year, True Divine Baptist Church (also recognized by Brewbaker Intermediate)
  • Robert E. Lee High School: Parent of the Year, Eric Nettles; Community Partner of the Year, Staff Sergeant Paul Cunningham of the Alabama Army National Guard
  • FEWS Accelerated Academy: Community Partner of the Year, That's My Child
  • Fitzpatrick Elementary: Parent of the Year, Chanae Poe; Community Partner of the Year, True Divine Baptist Church
  • Garrett Elementary: Parent of the Year, Jana Mazett; Community Partner of the Year, Robert Lenn Sr. 
  • Dannelly Elementary: Parent(s) of the Year, Shantell Word-Duncan and Tavis Duncan; Community Partner of the Year, County Commissioner Dan Harris
  • Wilson Elementary School: Parent of the Year, Balore Surles; Community Partner of the Year, Chantilly Home Depot Store

The event also recognized Theresa Thornton, the parent liaison and GEAR Up program coordinator from Brewbaker Middle School.
