BIBB CO., AL (WSFA) - One inmate was fatally stabbed, and another is facing charges after an incident in an Alabama correctional facility Tuesday evening.

According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, Keandre Derrod Houston, 29, is charged in the fatal stabbing of Jeveria Odess McCall, 35.

The stabbing happened at the Bibb County Correction Facility inside the housing area, ALDOC reports. McCall was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At the scene, officials recovered a makeshift knife that was believed to have been used during the stabbing.

McCall was serving a 20-year sentence on a 2013 first-degree robbery conviction in Montgomery County.

Houston was serving a life sentence for a 2011 murder conviction in Tuscaloosa County.

Immediately after the stabbing, ALDOC officials say the prison was placed on lockdown.
