MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) - Millbrook police made an arrest Thursday stemming from an incident that happened Sunday afternoon.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson says 28-year-old Wetumpka resident Ladarious Eaves was shot in the abdomen after getting into an argument that turned physical with the suspected shooter.

Johnson says the suspect fled the scene, located in the 4000 block of Oliver Drive. Eaves was taken to Prattville Baptist emergency room initially before being transferred to Baptist South Hospital.

Cedric Long, 24, of Millbrook was identified as the suspect and taken into custody Thursday, charged with second-degree assault. Long was arrested inside an Elmore County courtroom where he was making an appearance in regards to a probation violation.

Johnson says Long was placed inside the Elmore County Jail under no bond.

As a result of rising crimes involving firearms in the Millbrook area, Johnson says the department is increasing patrols in those areas where the offenses have been happening. Johnson says patrols will be increased as long as necessary.
