Auburn mayor's annual Memorial Day breakfast will honor all veterans

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Memorial Day is quickly approaching and in Auburn the mayor is honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
On Monday, Auburn Mayor Bill Ham Jr. and the Auburn Veterans Committee will honor all veterans and their families at the 20th annual Mayors Memorial Day Breakfast.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The 2018 Distinguished Veteran Award and Auburn Heroes Award will be presented in front of the about 300 people who are expected to attend.
"From the mayor and our economic development folks who help organize this event, there's definitely a passion for our community's veterans, and to recognize what they've done and what they mean to the community. And the veterans committee, the chairman is Sam Nichols, councilman Phelan also serves on that committee and they work hard to find ways to help veterans in the community," says City of Auburn Director of Public Affairs, David Dorton.
All proceeds will go to the Auburn Veterans Memorial Fund.
The breakfast will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument.
