DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The Wallace Lady Governors have been hosting their 4th annual softball camp this past week.
Girls ages 6-13 have gotten a chance to learn from one of the top junior college softball programs this past year.
All week long the campers have learned all the fundamentals from hitting, throwing, fielding, and base running.
Wallace head coach David Russo said about 60 girls participated in the camp and after the successful season the Govs had on the field in 2018, he's hoping in a few years some of the campers will help Wallace keep up its winning ways.
"We've had a lot of young ladies that have told us when they get old enough they love to be Lady Govs and that's what we love to hear," said Russo. "In the last 10 years, softball had absolutely gone through the roof. Probably by the time these young girls get up to college age, I think softball will rival football and any other sport nationally and definitely in the state of Alabama."
The Wallace softball camp will conclude on Thursday.
