MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Retail giant Walmart has installed giant, new vending machines in their Prattville and Montgomery (Atlanta Highway) locations in an effort to make shopping easier and faster for customers.
Called "Pickup Towers", the machines are popping up at store locations across Alabama and other states.
Instead of browsing the store in person, shoppers can now choose the items they want and pay for them online or through the Walmart app. Instead of waiting for the item to be shipped to their home, customers can then select an in-store pickup option.
After an order is placed, a Walmart employee loads the order into the Pickup Tower and Walmart sends a notification to the customer.
After getting the notification, the customer can go to their local store and allow the tower to scan a barcode on their smartphone. In less than a minute, the tower will dispense the customer's order.
"We are thrilled to bring innovative technologies like the Pickup Tower to our shoppers," said James Lipscomb, the manager at the Montgomery location. "These high-tech towers add another layer of convenience for our shoppers to customize their shopping experience."
