Monday will be a little warmer, drier

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Monday will have a little less rain coverage and a little warmer temperatures compared to Sunday. There's a 40% chance of scattered showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon. Highs will warm to near 90°, but heat index values will be in the mid 90s.

Afternoon showers and storms stay in the forecast through the workweek, but our temperatures warm up by the end of the week.

Tropical Update (as of 10 p.m. Sunday):

Tropical Storm Chris is continuing to strengthen and has sustained winds of 60 m.p.h. It will continue to meander off the coast of North Carolina over the next day or so, then quickly move in a northeasterly direction. Chris is expected to strengthen into a hurricane Monday. In about 4 days, it will start transitioning into an extratropical cyclone. Besides high seas and rip currents along the North Carolina and mid-Atlantic coasts, Chris is not a threat to the continental United States.

What was once Beryl is now an open wave. It could also possibly restrengthen into a tropical depression or storm later in the workweek while it moves through the Bahamas, but the National Hurricane Center is now saying the chance of that happening is low.
