AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Downtown parking has been an issue for quite some time for Auburn residents, but the city is trying to alleviate some of the congestion.
The Auburn City Council approved a contract with Ventek International to install the enforcement and access gates for the downtown employee parking lot.
"Let's say the technology to be able to control who comes into the light," said Auburn City Manager, Jim Buston. "So basically the gates that will be controlling access to the lot. What we've been doing, as you said we've been wanting to have a downtown parking lot that will provide parking for the employees downtown because there are some challenges that the downtown employees have if they are trying to re-feed the meters or trying to add to move their vehicles during their shift so we wanted to provide some way to solve some of those problems."
The parking lot is a temporary solution and officials say that they only plan on using it for about three years.
Right now officials say that they are coming in below their $150,000 budget.
