DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - Sonic skaters Josh Tucker and Juwahski Statling are ready to show off their skills next month in Oklahoma City.
The Dothan duo will be competing in the Sonic Skate-Off in August, looking to be crowned Sonic's top skater.
"The ultimate goal is to go have a good time and do what we love to do, but we know business as well," said competitor Joshua Tucker. "So we're going for gold and silver."
Tucker has been in the position for several years. This is his fourth trip to the finals and he's hoping to become a back-to-back champion.
"I'm trying to go back and go back-to-back like Jordan did back in the day," said Tucker. "To hear my name called after those three years of hard work, it was just a true blessing from God and I was just blessed to be there and be able to grasp that moment to live in it."
Starling, or JuJu as he's called, will be competing in his first skate off. Not bad for a guy who was originally hired as a cook.
"I've seen the commercials all the time," said Starling. "They are all roller skating outside and people love it. I wanted to be a part of it. So I put in a job application. Josh talked to me and sat me down and asked if I wanted to work. He gave me a job and kept me in the kitchen for a few months then he caught me skating and put me out front."
The two will compete in the finals from Aug. 13-15 in Oklahoma City, and then the winners will be announced in September in Washington DC.
