MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Brantley Kirk, with the Alabama Department of Transportation, confirmed crews are working on the first part of a $16.4 million repaving effort on portions of Interstate 85 in East Montgomery.
Over the past couple of weeks, crews have been doing regular, standard repaving to roads. Now, they are working to add an extra lane to the Taylor Road exit ramp.
ALDOT's plan also includes extending the ramp on I-85 SB from Taylor Road to Bell Road. There will also be dual left and dual right lanes at the top of the exit ramp at Eastern Boulevard once the project is finished.
There are a number of changes to the Eastern Boulevard, with regard to lane additions, signal updates and additions as well as ramp upgrades in the plan released by ALDOT back in May.
Kirk said once work begins on the other portions of the project, maps will be made available to the public.
In the meantime, some drivers have complained about damage to their windshields about debris from the work being done on the Interstate. Kirk said drivers can file claims with the contractor, Midsouth Paving, Inc, that's doing the work. The company's phone number Is 334-288-8310.
