TROY, AL (WSFA) - Troy football head coach Neal Brown's quarterback situation just keeps getting better. As he gears up to begin the season with his first starting quarterback post Brandon Silvers, he'll be adding a local talent to his stable soon.

Tuesday, former Brantley High School quarterback Jacob Free committed to the Trojans. Free signed with the Vanderbilt Commodores after high school and redshirted this past season.

In late November of last year Free announced his intentions to transfer to Northwest Mississippi Community College, and his next stop from there will be close to home.

The Trojans are in good hands this season behind center as either Kaleb Barker or Sawyer Smith gears up to start for Troy in their season opener against Boise State. That game will be played Sept. 1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
