AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - In Auburn, the numbers have been approved for many of the plans the city has to improve the quality of life for Auburn residents.

The Auburn City Council approved its fiscal year 2019 and fiscal year 2020 Biennial Budget, which consists of capital investments totaling around $16.5 million in 2019 and $9 million in fiscal year 2020.

Northwest Auburn will see a lot of changes in the next few years, with $6.4 million planned for investment. Other major projects include the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, Downtown Parking Plan, Downtown Master Plan, and the Renew Opelika Road Plan.

"Those are capital investments that aren't going to come from any type of borrowing. So those are the redoing sidewalks, putting in lighting, working the plans that we've done. All these plans that we've put together have components in them for capital investment," said Auburn City Manager, Jim Buston.

Auburn's population is currently 63,973, an increase of 13 percent since 2010.
