ANDALUSIA, AL (WSFA) - It won't be long now!
Construction crews are well on their way to wrapping up the massive renovation of the Andalusia High School football stadium.
The work began in the winter. The original stadium was a baseball field in the 1930s. In fact, baseball great Willie Mays once played there.
Today, it's the home of the Andalusia High School football team. The rebuilding price tag is around $12 million and that includes the renovation of the school auditorium.
City leaders say the field will be ready by the time Andalusia's first home game rolls around on Aug. 30.
The new stadium scoreboard was erected this week.
Andalusia's football season will begin on the road Aug. 24. The Bulldogs will face Saraland at 7 p.m.
