Man faces assault charge after victim shot in eye

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A man is facing a felony assault charge after court documents say another man was shot in the eye.

James Cummings, 43, is charged with assault first degree.

According to court documents, the charges are related to a shooting which happened in the 200 block of John Morris Avenue. Around 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Cummings shot the victim at close range with a handgun, injuring his right eye.

Montgomery police Capt. Regina Duckett says the victim told officers Cummings just walked up to him and shot him. The victim sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Cummings was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $65,000.

No other information about the shooting has been released.
