MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama PTA office will begin accepting donations for Booker T. Washington Magnet High School on Wednesday. Donations will be accepted at 470 Union Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Since a fire destroyed one of the school's buildings and left the campus unsafe for classes, many people have been looking for ways to help.
The FAME Foundation has been leading the donation effort. FAME stands for Friends of Art & Academic Magnet Education. The foundation is a non-profit group that has existed for years to provide resources for BTW beyond what is available from the school system.
Monetary donations are still the most needed to help teachers and students get back on their feet. You can make those directly to the FAME foundation at this link. You can also make a donation at any ASE Credit Union branch.
BTW is ranked one of the best schools in the state by U.S. News & World Report, it's the only non-residential arts-focused high school in the state of Alabama, and it receives NO Title1 funding, unlike the majority of traditional schools in Montgomery.
