Garden District homicide suspects face new, unrelated charges

New charges made against Montgomery murder suspects

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Two suspects who are charged in the Hull Street homicide of 29-year-old Samuel James are also facing robbery charges in an unrelated case, according to the Montgomery Police Department.

According to Capt. Regina Duckett, Taektrin Bivins, 28, and Jay'Shun Edwards, 16, are each facing one count of first-degree robbery in addition to their capital murder charge.

Duckett says the robbery charge is related to an incident that took place Aug. 4 around 11:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Malabar Road. The victim told officers that he was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects who took his vehicle and property.

The victim was also injured after being struck by the suspects. An investigation later identified Bivins and Edwards as the suspects.

Officers also recovered the victim's vehicle, Duckett said.

Bivins and Edwards were already in custody at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on the murder charge when authorities brought the new charges.

Both suspects are being held without bond in James' death.
