ENTERPRISE, AL (WSFA) - The Enterprise Wildcats are just two years removed from one of the team's best seasons in the last two decades.
The Wildcats finished the 2016 season with a record of 10-2 and a trip to the second round of the AHSAA Class 7A playoffs. However, last season is one the Wildcats would like to forget. Enterprise managed to win just two games a year ago, its worst season since the 1950s.
A small senior group returns for the Wildcats this season, but there is tons of leadership in those small numbers. With a new year comes the challenge of leaving last year in the past.
"We've had the high of highs and the low of lows and we've experienced that in back to back years," said head coach David Faulkner. "I think our kids understand the reasons why we were successful in 2016 and some of the problems we had last year. I think they came in with a little chip on their shoulder and I think they are excited about how close the season is and getting the opportunity to go out there this fall and try to put Enterprise football back to where it should be."
The Wildcats will be one of the first teams to open up play in the 2018 season. They take on rival Dothan on Thursday at Rip Hewes Stadium.
