Editorial: Mayor Strange talks special election
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - I'm Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange.
Our city's role in the fight for voting rights is widely known. The Selma to Montgomery March and other historic events were pivotal in ensuring that all Americans had access to the polls. But the power of the vote, which was secured with spilled blood and lost lives, is squandered if it isn't used.
Tuesday Aug. 28, there will be a special election to select a new member for city council district four. By now, all of the registered voters in that district should have received their voter information cards. If not please contact the board of registrar's office at 832-1215.
Many voters will cast their ballots at the same precinct they have used in the past but some may be voting at a different precinct for this election cycle only.
Take time to review your voter information card to guarantee that you report to the correct precinct on election day.
Polling places for Tuesday's special election will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information call 832-7744 or visit the election center website.
Remember our votes are mighty but only if we use them!
