Defendant in multi-state child sex case agrees to global plea deal
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The man wanted in two states for sexually assaulting a young family member in a viral video agreed to a global plea deal in federal court Thursday.
Germaine Moore, 45, pleaded to a global agreement which combines the charges in Alabama's Middle District, Elmore County, and the Eastern District of Michigan. The binding plea agreement would send Moore to prison for 50 years, but the judge will have the final say in how much time Moore will spend in prison.
The District Attorney's Office in Wayne County, Michigan is seeking an independent prosecution.
Moore was the target of an international manhunt after he was identified in a viral video showing the sexual assault of a young girl. The video was reportedly created in Detroit, however, Moore was arrested in his hometown of Millbrook, Alabama in February.
According to investigators, the victim in the initial video was a relative from Detroit, but a search warrant at Moore's house in Millbrook turned up nearly 20 devices that eventually showed Moore also reportedly created child pornography in Elmore County with the same victim and her siblings.
Investigators found a mini SD card hidden inside Moore's cell phone case. In March, investigators announced they had uncovered nine pictures and two videos that had been produced in Moore's house in Millbrook, an apartment in Prattville and a van that was parked on Moore's property.
"It's very consistent with somebody who is a sexually violent predator. It's as simple as that," stated Lt. Brooke Walker, of the hidden SD card. "He was not willing to let go of something that he considered a treasure."
Federal court documents indicated investigators discovered more than 600 images and videos of possible child pornography, 28 pictures and one video of child erotica, and 141 items of interest - media that appears to be child pornography.
This evidence posed an issue for the various jurisdictions seeking charges against Moore over what office would pursue prosecution first.
Moore was indicted on multiple counts of sexual exploitation of children and producing child pornography in Alabama's Middle District. In Elmore count, he was charged with five counts, including rape and facilitating travel to meet a child for sex.
