OZARK, AL (WSFA) - When the 2018 high school football season begins on Friday for the Carroll Eagles, it will be 1,049 days since the Eagles last lost a football game during the regular season.
The Eagles have strung together back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 2016 and 2017. The Eagles are an impressive 23-2 over the past two years but can't seem to get over the hump once they are in the playoffs. Carroll was eliminated in just the second round last season.
The Eagles will have to replace eight starters on defense this upcoming season but have a handful of guys returning on offense including running back Jonathan Fells.
When it comes to maintaining the undefeated regular season streak, it's not on their mind.
"We haven't lost a regular season game since 2015," said head coach Roger McDonald. "Everybody keeps talking about it, but I keep telling them that we're going to lose one sooner or later so you might as well stop talking about that because it's going to happen eventually. We want to prolong it as long as we can. The kids are working hard and getting after it. We've had a good summer and spring. They're just ready for football."
The Eagles kickoff the 2018 season on Friday against Booker T. Washington.
