MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Since stepping into the political spotlight, Donald Trump has utilized the media and social media to his benefit. There is no doubt in my mind that every tweet of his is calculated.
When he referred to the leader of North Korea as Rocket Man and stated my rockets are bigger than yours many thought he was going to create huge turmoil in that part of the country or even worse, was marching us into the next world war. Alas, to date that has yet to happen. His tweets infuriate his opponents and fire up his base.
This form of communication from the President, in my opinion, is one of the main issues fueling the discord and divide in this country.
In the last couple of weeks, President Trump has taken his tweets and his disdain for his opponents to a whole different level.
Trump miss-stepped again this week when he ordered the flag over the White House to be raised after just two days of Senator John McCain's passing. He is not a fan of McCain. He should think about the country first as is the tradition to have the flag lowered until the deceased is buried. Only after an outcry from members of both political parties, was the flag was lowered once again and will remain so until the senator is buried.
There is no question Senator McCain and his family have earned that. I hope, though am doubtful that the President one day will realize that he should keep quiet, stop tweeting and just do his job.
We as a country will be better for it.
