MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Our final day of August is about to carry us into an extended weekend, one where folks with outdoor plans will be paying particularly close attention to the forecast.
For the local area, today is a rinse and repeat forecast. Scattered showers and storms will develop mainly into the afternoon with highs on either side of 90 degrees. A few of those storms could be strong at times, but severe weather is unlikely. Rain chances will back off slightly into the weekend as the bulk of rain coverage starts to favor the coast.
For those with beach plans, I don't think you're looking at a washout. But a weak low and abundant Gulf moisture will result in daily storm chances running rather high. Odds are, you'll be in and out of the water with lightning nearby from time to time. Rainfall amounts along the coast could be particularly heavy.
