Suspect found dead following weekend Montgomery homicide

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department says the death of a 56-year-old woman Sunday was a homicide and that the suspect has since been found dead.

Medics and police officers responded to the 2000 block of Queens Hollow Court around 8:45 a.m. Sunday on a call of a deceased person. Upon arrival, they found the body of Ruth Ward, 56.

Ward had been fatally shot, according to investigators. Her son, Seth Ponzer, 33, was developed as a suspect.

Police say after the homicide, Ponzer fled to the Atlanta area where he was found dead Monday.

The investigation is ongoing. MPD is asking that anyone with knowledge of Ward's death to call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, or call the Secret Witness line at 334-625-4000 or police at 334-625-2831.
