Eric: Waiting for Gordon

Eric: Waiting for Gordon

Our Labor Day will have a Summerlike feel to it with highs into the lower 90s and scattered mainly afternoon thunderstorms. It's a fitting end to the unofficial close of Summer.

All eyes over the next few days will be south into the Gulf of Mexico. Potential Tropical Cyclone 7 is expected to become a Depression and eventually Tropical Storm Gordon, possibly as early as today.

Hurricane Hunters are expected to investigate the low this morning currently located just east of Florida Keys. The system will slide into the Gulf today where slow intensification is likely, taking it to Tropical Storm status.

Landfall is expected late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning somewhere between New Orleans and Mobile.

Based on this track, our impacts would be minimal. Coastal and southwest Alabama would deal with heavy rain and gusty winds, but for this to ramp up in our area, it would take another eastward nudge in track...which remains possible. Stay tuned.
