New budget unanimously approved for upcoming fiscal year

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery City Council unanimously approved the new budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The approved budget is for a little more than $252 million.
Before Tuesday night's city council meeting, others expressed opposition at previous meeting about some of the proposed changes.
Changes that included reducing the garbage pick-up from two days a week to just one, as well as a 2 cent per gallon gas tax increases.
Tuesday, the council approved a 3 cent per gallon gas tax as well as additional garbage fees to keep pick-up to two days per week.
The new budget includes a $2 million increase in sanitation salaries.
