MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - It’s official! Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen now has a center of circulation, meaning it is considered a Tropical Storm. Nestor is still churning in the Gulf and gaining a bit more momentum as it quickly moves towards the Florida Panhandle; while it’s a system we will be monitoring closely, the impacts will be minimal to Alabama when compared to other spots.

Let’s dive into this forecast, because one size won’t fits all!

Southeast Alabama will get the most out of this storm... that includes periods of heavy rain are possible starting late tonight and into early Saturday morning. Along with the wet weather, strong (potentially damaging) wind gusts could spike to 30-40 mph at times as Nestor makes landfall in the Florida panhandle near Panama City Beach.

A few power outages are possible, but this is not going to be a widespread issue across our area. Besides the occasional strong gust, severe weather is not expected.

For the rest of our area, our day tomorrow won’t be pretty... expected periods of on and off rain and a consistent breeze through the morning into the afternoon. It will not rain all day, and it won’t even rain on everyone.

By Saturday night we will begin the process of drying out. Sunday will be mostly dry and a bit warmer... that is setting our atmosphere up for our next cold front, which is expected to arrive late Monday into early Tuesday morning.

This next front may bring a small risk of damaging winds or a brief spin up tornado. We’re watching it, so check back for updates...
