Former Wetumpka police chief suing the city for discrimination

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Former Wetumpka Police Chief Celia Dixon is suing the city for age and gender discrimination.
Dixon was fired in October for allegedly threatening officers, using profanity and other inappropriate behavior.
In the federal lawsuit filed Monday, Dixon's attorneys claim Wetumpka Mayor Jerry Willis told people he did not want Dixon as chief because she was a woman and too old.
He also allegedly offered favors to current and former police officers who had been terminated or disciplined by Dixon in return for statements that would give him a basis for her termination.
Mayor Willis tells WSFA 12 News they have not been notified of the suit and cannot comment.
Dixon also filed an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint against the city after she was put on paid administrative leave by the mayor in July 2014.
