Two-time Class Act winner prepares to retire

MONTGOMERY, AL - If you are a frequent viewer of WSFA, then you may recognize this face from a Class Act segment we did back in 2009.
Now six years later, not much has changed about Reba Summers.
Not only has she not aged one bit, but she is still a teacher at Forest Avenue Magnet School in Montgomery.
What is the difference between then and now? Mrs. Summers has decided 2015 will be her last year teaching.
"It's bittersweet," said Summers. "Sometimes, as my dad always says, 'you have to do what you have to do.'"
We decided to surprise Mrs. Summers at the Montgomery Zoo on one of her last days as a teacher while she was on a field trip with her kindergarten students. While observing her, it was clear that Mrs. Summers' number one priority has and continues to be the kids she teachers. That is one of the things she will miss the most.
"I'm going to miss the children," said Summers. "I am going to miss teaching them and watching them think outside of the box. It's just amazing teaching the aged children that I do and how smart they are."
But just because she is retiring, it doesn't mean you will never see her in a classroom again. She has five grandsons, and she is excited to watch them all go through school.
"I look forward to going to have lunch with them at their school and reading to their classes, going on field trips with them," said Summers.
To celebrate, Mrs. Summers is taking a little trip.
"We're going to Disney World!"
