MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) - Two people have been arrested after an investigation into an assault in Millbrook last week that left a man with extensive injuries.

Kevin Hamilton, 31, of Prattville, and Cecilia Carleton, 27, of Millbrook, are facing multiple charges as a result of the investigation.

According to the Millbrook Police Department, officers were called to the emergency room at Prattville Baptist Hospital Saturday where 26-year-old Billy Johnson was being treated for serious injuries to his head and face.

Investigators discovered that the night before, between 6 and 10 p.m., Johnson went with an acquaintance to her residence in the 2800 block of Lanark Road in Millbrook. That's when a man reportedly approached Johnson, knocked him to the ground, and repeatedly kicked him in the face and head.

The suspect then took a large amount of cash from Johnson.

Police identified Hamilton as a suspect in the case and learned that Prattville police were familiar with him and he has outstanding warrants. After searching multiple locations in Prattville for Hamilton, Millbrook and Prattville detectives served a search warrant at the residence on Lanark Road on Wednesday. They reportedly found marijuana, a small bag of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Hamilton was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants out of Prattville. He was transported to the Autauga County Metro Jail.

Millbrook detectives have obtained warrants for Hamilton on charges of assault second degree, theft of property first degree, possession of marijuana first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He will be arrested on those charges when he's released from the Autauga County Jail.

Police also arrested Cecilia Carleton, 27, of Millbrook, after the search. She's facing charges of possession of marijuana first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She's being held in the Elmore County Jail on $26,500 bond.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said this case was "extremely difficult to work" because it has received a lot of attention on social media.

According to relatives, Johnson took a photo on Snapchat of some money and was invited over to a friend's house that night by someone who saw the picture on the popular social media app. The visit turned out to be a setup.

"The bottom line is nothing justifies beating someone about the head and face to the point they have fractured bones and require numerous surgical procedures to repair," Johnson said.

Billy Johnson has a fractured skull and forehead, broken cheek bones, broken eye socket and broken jaw. He underwent facial reconstructive surgeries and will need other operations. An account has been set for up donations to assist with medical expenses at MAX Credit Union.
