In school, students learn all about the 5 W’s: who, what, when, where, and why.
This week, we are at Robert E. Lee High School to give a Class Act award to English teacher Chris Chambers.
When asked why he picked teaching as a career, Mr. Chambers said he saw a need for kids to have good role models.
“I saw so many students that needed good male figures in their in lives," said Chambers. "So I decided to go into the English field.”
Mr. Chambers is always trying to lead his students down the right path.
For 11 years, he has been helping students in and outside of the classroom; in his spare time he is also a sports coach. When asked, Chambers said coaching and teaching are actually a lot alike.
“You have to prepare kids either way," said Chambers. "You have to prepare them for the game on the court, and you also have to prepare them for life in the classroom. We have to make sure they have every shot to be successful that they possibly can have."
The student that nominated Mr. Chambers wants him to know all of his effort is appreciated and that he really does makes a big impact on their lives.
“I just want him to know even though it seems as if no one is listening, I want him to know that he is heard and I appreciate him for everything he does,” said Zenobia Warren.
“That is one of the most rewarding things in the education field," said Chambers. "Seeing kids that you had a hand on, maybe had a little trouble in life, but they come up and they want to tell you that they I made it.”
