Cameras could be added to AL school buses

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - It could soon be easier for drivers to get caught passing school buses. A new bill making its way through the legislature would recommend
school districts put cameras on the outside of buses.
The "Alabama School Bus Safety Act" passed the Senate in March. The proposed bill would add cameras that capture drivers who refuse to put on the brakes when buses are stopped. If caught, drivers could receive a $300 ticket in the mail.
Some parents feel the automated bus cameras could force drivers to pay more attention on the roads.
The bill also says local law enforcement will work with school districts to help with enforcement and some of the money from those tickets could go back into school systems.
The bill is now up for debate in the House.
