South Montgomery County Academy student wins multiple science awards
MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) - Eddie Strickland just earned his high school diploma from South Montgomery County Academy, but he has already built quite the resume.
He has been to six science fairs this year.
"Two of which were international, " Eddie tells us.
He's not only competing, he's winning. Eddie says he has one Best in Show awards from Boeing, the United States Army, the Huntsville Rotary Club and the Huntsville Chapter of the Energy Engineers. His project is a dual purpose muffler.
"When I found that mufflers today are inefficient, I started designing my own," Eddie said.
His design grew out of curiosity.
"I was thinking 'how do they work,' and once I learned how they worked, I wanted to make it better," Eddie said.
Now, Eddie is making a name for himself. He is filing a patent and plans to try to sell his design to automakers.
He plans to attend Auburn University and major in mechanical engineering.
