Confidence in the economy could be driving AL tourism

LAKE MARTIN, AL (WSFA) - Thousands are believed to be out on the lakes with the beautiful weather and a last run on the water wrapping up the summer.
One business owner on Lake Jordan says this summer has been much busier than the past two years, believing business has picked up by at least 30 percent. According to Alabama Tourism Director Lee Sentell, it's been a great summer statewide.
Sentell says the beaches have seen a record year so far and he believes much of that is due to people having more confidence in the economy. Sentell also says people are enjoying Alabama's amenities, from the lakes to the beaches to state parks.
Of course, the lower gas prices have also helped.
Experts say after labor day is even better to book family vacations as prices will be lower. Staying down at the beach people can see a 40 percent cut during the fall compared to summer months and busy weekends.
